Charmaine Hickman (daughter): The auctioneer’s assistant could have been my father. He went out to Kenya to work for Whiteways Laidlaw, didn’t last long; he could have worked at the auctioneers before taking up work as a technician with the Medical Department in Kisumu. Here he found his niche, and moved to Mombasa (Port Health Office). At the end of WW2 he returned to the U.K. for 3 years and did his BSc.(London) Returned to Mombasa in 1948; continued to work at the Port Health Office before taking Long Leave to U.K. in 1952 and writing his PhD (London) and being posted to Nyeri, Central Province. 1956 he was transferred to Nairobi, where he remained until his (early) retirement in 1963. He then worked for the W.H.O. for several years.
