Macmillan 1930 - The Pioneer Hotel, Eldoret - After the hotel had been under the management of various succeeding persons, Mr Ghersi leased it on November 16th 1928 to Mr J. H. Rogers and under the direction of that capable gentleman and his wife it is very much better than it used to be. After serving for 21 years in the Army in 3 regiments latterly as Sergeant-Major in the 13th Hussars, Mr Rogers retired to civil life and ran the Old Ford Hotel at Aldershot for 18 months. He then went to Kenya as Secretary of the Rift Valley Sports Club, Nakuru where he remained 6 months until he was given the more remunerative position of manager of the Eldoret Hotel. Six months later he took over the Pioneer Hotel.
