East Africa & Rhodesia - 24/5/56 - Cmdr. John Swift Sharp, OBE, RD, RNR, a former senior marine officer of the East African Railways and Harbours, has died at his home near Eastborne, Sussex. Born in 1894, he was educated at Bournemouth and HMS Worcester. After service with the British India Line and in the Royal Navy in the First World War, he joined the Kenya and Uganda Railways and Harbours in 1925. He again served with the navy from 1939 to 1946, and was awarded an OBE. He retired from the EAR&H in 1951. He is survived by his second wife and a son.
