Gethin - 'Chappie died in Rhodesia some years ago. ....... I met Chappie in the Hotel York, Bernard Street, London in 1924. He had never been out of Africa before so was completely lost in London. He spent his day walking the few yards to Oxford Street getting on any old bus and sitting there till the bus reached its destination. He would then be asked to get off, and would be shown another bus returning to Oxford Street. I met Chappie later at the same Hotel when I was on my way back to Kenya and he introduced me to his girl friend who called herself the Countess Olga. Obviously a London tart. Chappie married her later and brought her back to Kenya. I again met them in the Stanley Hotel completely broke, waiting for B.F. to send them their rail fares to Muhoroni. The Countess who could only speak Cockney and no Russian, relieved B.F. of quite a large sum of money and then cleared off with the local policeman, much to everyone's relief, more so Chappie's.'
