Playne - Waterford Farm - This farm, which covers 1000 acres, is 13 miles from Nairobi. There are two homesteads, built of stone quarried on the property. Mr Mearns Duirs, who was in New Zealand and South Africa for many years, also owns 100 acres adjoining the Catholic Mission near Nairobi. The present stock consists of 80 cattle and 3 horses. Mr Mearns Duirs formerly kept sheep, but had to give them up on account, alas! of the numerous thefts by natives. ........... About 20 natives are employed, but there is no European help.
