Foster - Alas, in 1926 Capt. E. Long was seriously injured in a riding accident; Jack Appleby rode off at once to summon the nearest doctor, who was based at Meru some 40 miles away. Appelby was unfortunately charged by elephants in the Meru forest and returned empty handed to find that Long had already died.
