General Information:
Moyse - 16th October 1895 - Capt. Lawrence, who had rushed a rebel boma at Mbogani with his raw Swahili recruits, was shot dead as he pursued on horseback after one of the rebel chiefs.
Carson - At Shimoni is the grave of Capt. Frederick Eyre Lawrence of the Rifle Brigade, the first European war casualty known and buried on the coast. He was killed by Sheikh Mubarak's troops near Gasi during the rebellion. The inscription of his well-preserved grave reads - "Killed in action at Mbogani in the cause of civilization and freedom to EA on 16th October 1895."
Uganda Journal - Vol. 23, p. 195 - The Mutiny Memorial at Bukaleba - …….. Lawrence was shot dead in action on 16 October 1895 at Mbogani during the Mazrui Rebellion operations (see Moyse-Bartlett, 'The King's African Rifles', 1956, p. 108).
North - killed at Mgobani in Pongwe Dist. near Wasin during Mbarak rebellion.
