Uganda Journal - Vol 22, p. 97 - Obituary of Michael Moses - …. The command of the troops [at Masindi] then devolved upon Lieutenant (afterwards Lieutenant-Colonel) Radclyffe Dugmore of the North Staffordshire Regiment who had no previous experience of handling Sudanese troops. ……….. William John Ansorge …… was considerably older than Dugmore and his previous administrative service and his knowledge of the habits and ways of thought of his Sudanese patients made him a useful mentor to his younger and less experienced commanding officer.
DSO - Commissioned in the Prince of Wales's North Staffordshire Regt. 20 Jun 1894 as Second Lieutenant. He was employed  in the Uganda Protectorate 27/12/99 to 23/1/1902, serving with the KAR in the East African Arab War, taking part in the operations against the Mazrui rebels (Medal); in Unyoro 1896-7 (Medal) and in the Uganda Mutiny in 1897-8, when he averted the threatened insurrection of 500 Sudanese. He was mentioned in Despatches, received the Medal and clasp, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order - In recognition of services during the recent operations in Uganda. The Insignia was presented by the Queen at Osborne 1/2/1899. …….. {more on service in S. Africa, Somaliland} ….. retired in 1909. In 1914 he was second-in-command, 72nd Highlanders, Canada.
