Bright - born on 5 Feb 1872. His father, Charles Edward Bright, was serving in Australia as a colonial commissioner; his mother, Anna Maria Georgiana Manners-Sutton Bright (known as Minnie), was the daughter of the 3rd Viscount Canterbury, who was Governor of Victoria at the time of Richard's birth. When Minnie's father died in 1877, her brother assumed the title as 4th Viscount Canterbury. Minnie was in regular communication with influential British aristocrats serving in important government positions, including Lord Salisbury.
