DSO - He was employed in the Uganda Protectorate 18 June 1897 to 8 Feb 1899, and took part in the operations in Uganda in 1897-8, being present at the capture of Kabagambi (severely wounded); at the attack of Kijembo, and several other engagements. He was mentioned in Despatches, received the Medal with 2 clasps, and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (London Gazette, 24 June 1899) - In recognition of services during the recent operations in Uganda. …… He was employed in the British East African Protectorate 9 Feb 1899 to 17 June 1907 and served with the King's African Rifles taking part in operations against the Ogaden Somalis in Jubaland (Medal with clasp) ………. He died 12 Feb 1909, and an obituary notice of him appeared in the 'Times'
