EAS 27 Apr 1937 Accident at Kenya Consolidated Goldfield Blue Ray Mine at Lolgorien resulted in the death of three people, two Europeans and an African. They were descending the mine when a portion of the winding gear known as the jockey jammed and fell 180 feet into the bucket where the men were. This caused the bucket to become detached and it fell, the the occupants being killed. The bucket was capable of taking between 10 and 12 cwt so that three people represented only about half its normal capacity. Woodley and his companion were married comparatively recently.
