General Information:

Elephant - Sir Piers Mostyn, a very keen elephant hunter, has sought them in most parts of Africa, obtaining special licences to shoot out herds where local Governments have been worried by their depredations. He now uses an aeroplane for getting about, though not, of course, to hunt the game, as some ill-informed newspapers have suggested.
KGF - The 11th baronet, Sir Pyers George Joseph Mostyn was forced to sell the family home to offset overwhelming death duties, the result of two deaths within 5 years. Sir Pyers moved to Waraza Farm, Naro Moru, near Nanyuki in or soon after 1920. He was tragically killed in 1937, apparently by a rogue horse. His son, Sir Pyers Edward Mostyn, born 1928 became the 12th baronet. He was killed in 1955 during practice for the East African Safari Rally and his grave is in Malindi. Campling - 1933 - Kenya's first air force unit as a unit of the KDF - Officers included - Sir Piers Mostyn
Chandler - a distinguished British soldier and sportsman. In 1903 he was a lieutenant in the KAR battalion at Zomba in Nyasaland, the same unit as Lieut. Stigand. ………. In later life Mostyn used his considerable influence (he was a baronet) to obtain special "elephant control" contracts throughout British Africa. He would eliminate problem animals for no pay, keeping the tusks. In the early 1920s Mostyn was one of the hunters who obtained a special Tanganyika control licence, enabling him to shoot 25 problem elephant at the direction of the game department. Unlike many of the hunters who worked for the project, his reputation was such that no one suggested he was selectively shooting big tuskers instead of bona fide problem animals. He did take some heat, however, for pioneering the use of a private plane to find the elephant herds, for many people mistakenly thought he was shooting the animals from the plane.
Air - Royal Aero Club Aviator's Certificate No. 8348 dated 30 July 1928 - Moth 30-80 hp. Cirrus, De Havilland Flying School
Barnes - Portuguese Chapel, Malindi - Sir Pyers Edward Joseph Mostyn, 12th Baron of Talacre, born 12/7/1928, died 11/2/1955, beloved son of the late Sir Pyers George Joseph Mostyn, 11th Baronet and Margery Lady Mostyn, brother of Margaret Claire Francis, rest in peace
Flying - In 1928 owned a DH Moth aeroplane in Kenya.
Hut - killed pigsticking?
Muthaiga - One of the 7 original subscribers to Muthaiga Country Club in 1935
