General Information:

Cass - the late Jock Rutherfurd was a man of rare calibre who knew how to handle Joy [Adamson] and countered her demands with his own brand of toughness. He was physically strong and almost without fear. Despite their rows she grudgingly respected him, without admitting that he was far more knowledgeable than she about the bush, animals birds and trees. Typical of Kenya-born men, he could keep a vehicle running on wire and string and use Sunlight soap to stop up holes in petrol tanks. Not a woman who appreciated being answered back, Joy called him 'Mr RatherRude' Nevertheless she relied upon him, admiring his strengths and virtues. He was an intrepid horseman, used to lassoing giraffe from horseback. A man more than partial to alcohol, he managed to survive on beer at Shaba.
