mini-Sitrep XXXI - The Baillon family ancestors who originally hailed from St. Malo in Brittany, had subsequently migrated to the Seychelles Islands where both our father (also named Joseph Herman Baillon) and our mother (Louise Baillon née Savy) were born. JHB Snr. Having been orphaned from the age of 5 and left in the care of a doting family aunt, left the Seychelles for Kenya in 1919. On his arrival in Kenya (aged 18) where, after a stint working for a French wine importer, he joined the KUR&H, and then much later the PWD, in both whose employ he spent most of his working life in various capacities, and in various parts of Kenya. He married our mother in 1926.
