Nairobi Forest Road cemetery - Joseph Darevsky, Jewish, age 84, died 8/6/69

Glimpses - Another who turned up just after the war [WW1] was Joseph Darevsky, who is well remembered as an adventurer. He came from Australia where he dealt in apples to British East Africa where he traded bags of salt in Uganda for cattle which he brought for slaughter to Nairobi. He travelled a lot and the tales he told of his adventures were always interesting - he was a fabulous teller of tales (Mervyn Medicks - personal communication) He settled down enough to get more prosaically listed in the "Red Book" 1919 as a 'merchant' and 'grocer' on Government Road, to have two wives (first Bunya, then Helen) and father 3 children, and become "a man of property" Ruth Rabb says - "I can remember the Darevskys very well - he had 3 children, Esther, Bluma and Solly Darevsky. As far as we know Solly is still living in London and may possibly be called Sol Dare. Solly always referred to his father as Pa Darevsky after the famous Polish pianist. Esther Darevsky married a relative of Sheila Mardigs. Bluma was a communist, can you imagine that?"
