Web - Migaa Estate - The Findlays of Kiambu - Hugh Findlay owned the Waitangi Coffee Estate. Claire Foottit, Hugh Findlay's granddaughter writes this about her grandparents: "Hugh and Constance (née Touche) also known as Connie and Mouse, Findlay were coffee planters on Waitangi Estate. They had 4 daughters - Betty (married to Derek Foottit who was in the agricultural department in the Colonial Administration), Joan (married to Phil Wise), Anne (married to Ted Barrett) and Dorothy 'Dot' (married to Roy Hart). The Wises left Kenya in 1960 and my parents the Foottits left Kenya in 1963. Claire Foottit remembers - "My grandfather was a keen polo player and my aunt Joan related stories of riding up into the Kikuyu Reserve which either was on the boundary with Waitangi or not far away. My grandfather died young and is buried in St Peter's [Paul's] churchyard, Kiambu. His gravestone is adjacent to Lord Erroll's. After my grandfather died my grandmother ran Waitangi until 1972, when, after Ronald's death, she left Kenya and the farm was sold to Brooke Bond.
