General Information:
Macmillan - 1930 - Austin and Co., Auctioneers, Valuers, Land and Estate Agents - The business is the second oldest of its kind in Nairobi. It was established in 1922 by Mr R.S. Austin, who was joined soon afterwards in partnership by Mr S. Lazarus. The latter has been sole owner of it since the death of Mr Austin in 1927. Mr Lazarus has had a very remarkable and interesting career, and it is regrettable that space is not available here to tell about it. Anyhow, he is the right man in the right place, and serves very creditably an exceedingly useful role in the business life of Nairobi.

Glimpses - The year 1906 saw more arrivals of Jews from South Africa. …The Lazarus brothers came, Alec, Sam and Jack; Alec started a barbershop and the first ladies' hairdressing salon in the town, Jack became "the furniture man", while Sam worked for many years at Austin's Auction Mart.
