Land - R. Gurnell leased 5075 acres at Solai which passed to A.I. Lean
Pioneers - Solai - Fritz Freyburg - In 1929 my hut on the old '35' farm had been inhabited by Colonel Lean's manager, who had shared it with his wife and a python. This python was the wife's pet, and seemed to dislike the husband intensely. The python shared the wife's bed and the husband didn't dare go near her. There came a time when she had to go to England for several months. She put the python in a comfortable cage and made her husband promise, by all he held dear, to care for it tenderly during her absence. For days after her departure the poor fellow was tormented. What should he do? Old Colonel Lean was in no doubt. 'If you're half a man, shoot the damned thing.' At last the manager poked a shotgun into the cage and blew its head off. When his wife returned, everyone had been coached to tell the same story. The python had pined away and died from a broken heart during its mistress's absence.
