Web DNW - Sergeant Robert Allan Low was born at Hammersmith, London in 1874. He enlisted into the 51st Company (Paget's Horse) Imperial Yeomanry on 26 January 1900 and served in South Africa from 16 March 1900 until 17 June 1901. After his discharge he joined the Colonial Civil Service, serving until 1918 as Assistant Master to Queen's Royal College, Trinidad.
During the Great War he also worked as a censor, for which he received the thanks of the Government. Allan's next appointment was as Headmaster to Nairobi European School, Kenya in which post he remained until 1924.
